Is Love a Choice?

What is Love? Love is an experience that transcends our selves, and rooted in our biology, yet a choice, too. In this article, we’ll examine the biological roots of Love and how it can manifest itself in the smallest of things. Ultimately, we’ll explore whether Love is a choice. And what is the role of culture in the experience of Love? The answers are as varied as our cultures, and the debates about it.

Love is an experience beyond self

The notion that love is a physical experience that transcends the self has a long and rich history. In ancient Rome, Cupid’s arrow caused a wound to the victim in the hopes of triggering love. In Ovid’s poem “Adonis”, Venus falls in love with Adonis, but accidentally scratches the wound with Cupid’s arrow. Her wound subsequently consumes her, leaving her dead.

It’s a choice

We’ve all heard the expression “love is blind,” but what about the truth that love is an act? Love is a choice. It requires action and consistency. In fact, we have to choose to love, despite what our emotions or circumstances are doing. “In love” is an emotion, but it must be transformed into a more mature love in order to be truly meaningful. However, the best way to do that is by being conscious of your actions.

It’s rooted in biology

While the concept of gender is still prevalent in many cultures, the meaning of gender is also changing. While men and women display similar traits, biological scientists do not talk about gender in the same way as literary theorists. To explore this Cherry Adams further, Stanford Humanities Center is holding a conference on gender on Feb. 8 and 9. The conference is free and open to the public, and will run from 10 a.m. on Friday to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

It’s in the smallest things

Love is found in the tiniest things. It is an energy that can light up the world when two hearts unite and shine in unison. When shared, love can create the real emotions that we humans crave. It is like the stars in the sky; even if we cannot see them, we can trust that they will always be there. If we only learn to recognize and trust that love exists, we can be sure that we will find it in the end.

It’s a motivation to be the best version of yourself

The best way to improve yourself is to love yourself. Everyone has their own path. You may be at a crossroads right now. Practice self-love, get outside, do something that makes you happy, and check your negative self-talk. Replace it with empowering words and you’ll soon see a dramatic difference. And you’ll be more successful at life. Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide what is best for you.
